Nothing beats a home-cooked meal shared with family! And this is what inspires our Family Style Cookery Classes, a fun, laid-back homestyle cooking experience. Here, you will learn to prepare different dishes and then enjoy them with people who, like you, fuel our mission of supporting refugee and migrant chefs on their journey to integration. Itโs a cookery class with a conscience, like they say!
Your class will be led by our wonderful Chef Akbar from Uzbekistan at in Angel, London.
At our Family Style Cookery Classes, you will be grouped with other participants and prepare dishes together as a team. Think of Chef Akbar as the head of the family! He will take care of dividing the class into groups, and each group will be responsible for creating one of the dishes. Of course, you are welcome and encouraged to move around during the class to learn about the other dishes being prepared. Throughout the evening, Chef Akbar will share stories about their food and culture, and explain how to prepare each of the dishes so you come away with some new cooking tricks and inspiration. You will also be emailed the recipes after the class.

A message from our Chef Akbar:
โHi, my name is Akbar. I moved to the UK from the historic city of Samarkand in Uzbekistan, with my wife and four children. I am Tajik and I love showcasing our delicious food and culture. Samarkand is a significant centre of Persian culture and a hub for trade along the Silk Road.
I have had a passion for cooking from a young age, as I learnt from my parents and grandparents. Having had many years of experience catering for family, and friends and hosting culinary events I am now confident and enjoy cooking Tajik cuisine.
I used to be a mathematics teacher as well as a chef, so I like both numbers and flavours. I have a Masters degree in mathematics from Samarkand State University, so I have an eye for detail, precision, flavour harmony and creativity. I also enjoy experimenting with different ingredients and techniques to create exquisite flavours, delighting your palates and affording memorable culinary experiences.
Whether solving Mathematical equations or developing recipes, I am dedicated to honing my culinary skills and inspiring you with traditional recipes from my past home in Uzbekistanโ.
Weโre excited to have you in the class! Please take note of a few final reminders:
